Failure Is An Option

This is not a post intended to demean or dismantle dreams and aspirations.

Simple word association deems failure as a negative flaw that we as humans naturally strive to be cleansed from.

But what if we looked at the tones in the word failure.

To fail is a lack of capability, a shortcoming of sorts and an incapability to achieve a set goal.

I’d like to challenge this notion.

Yes, we can all agree that there is often a crushing feeling that follows failure that I’m sure most have experienced. The thought and act of ‘giving up’ is seen as a form of submission that one cannot overcome, which is contrary to the primal inclination we have, as humans to strive, overcome and achieve.

What do we do?

I have encountered failures, some with grave consequences and others with lighter outcomes. Regardless, it seems that I always forget to remind myself that it is a temporary state of being, which is dependent on my approach and my next step.

Accepting defeat is the preliminary step in achieving success, we just have to get over the phrase failure which, is at best, a necessary step needed to improve.

In other words, I’m saying that we just need to get over it and keep on going.

Better said in the words of Mandela:

“I never lose. I either win or learn.”
